CBD water has its own specific properties, but can it be used in the same way as other CBD products? Here’s the information you need before drinking it.
Do you need to consume CBD water?
CBD water is just one of the numerous CBD products ranging from CBD Gummies, eye drops to suntan lotion–that are readily available to purchase and test. Similar to other forms of cannabidiol, CBD water has distinctive attributes in terms of how quickly it can work and how long its effect lasts, and what dosage is most effective.
“CBD water has some pros and cons,” states Martin A. Lee, co-founder, and director of Project CBD, a California nonprofit that promotes CBD research and is also the author of Smoke Signals: A Social History of Marijuana-Medical, Recreational and Scientific. “If you’re going to infuse beverages with CBD–which is a perfectly legitimate way to take it–you have to use a certain method.”

Here’s what you need to know when you’re thinking of drinking CBD water.
What is CBD?
CBD is one of two main ingredients in both the marijuana plant as well as its cousin, the hemp plant. Unlike the other main ingredient, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD does not produce a high. Marijuana is more likely to contain THC, while hemp is more CBD.
For the United States, most CBD comes from hemp that can be grown in a legal manner in the event that it contains not more than 0.3 percent THC, as stipulated by the 2018 Farmers Bill. Hemp is also utilized to create rope, paper, carpets, and more.
Is CBD 100% safe?
In general, experts consider CBD extremely safe. When used in high doses CBD may interact with many other drugs like blood thinners as well as common painkillers. Additionally, pure CBD may require greater doses than full-spectrum and broad-spectrum products, which contain other ingredients (more on this later). Always consult your physician to ensure that CBD does not affect the effects of any medications you’re taking. The National Library of Medicine keeps an exhaustive list of possible interactions with drugs.
Make sure to look for American-grown CBD that reduces the odds that the product is not infected with harmful chemicals. “You know better what’s in it,” says Dr. Goldstein.
What exactly is CBD water?
CBD water is only one product of the massive CBD beverages industry which is expected to surpass $1.4 billion in 2023 according to market consulting firm Zenith Global. It also offers CBD teas, CBD coffee, CBD sports drinks, and CBD sodas.
Enter nanotechnology which can structurally alter the fat molecules. The end product is created as Nanoemulsion. “You have to make the CBD compatible with water, otherwise the homogenized oil floats to the top,” Lee says. Lee. “It requires a technological intervention . . . Therefore, the body perceives it to be water.”
Although there isn’t much research about CBD-infused beverages This altering process could be a sign that your body is absorbing the CBD faster so it starts working more quickly (in possibly as little as just 20 mins). The downside? The results of CBD that is infused into water might not last for very long.
“If it acts quicker, it stops acting quicker, whereas edible or ingestible effects could last four hours easily,” Lee says. Lee. And again, it’s important to keep in mind that CBD water is water that has small amounts of CBD and may vary depending on the brand.
How do I purchase CBD water?
It is important to note that the quality and purity of CBD water products can vary widely which is why you’re recommended to conduct your study prior to buying. Selecting a trustworthy company is key.
“Go with a company that has a website, ideally a phone number that you can call,” advises Dr. Goldstein. “It’s very important that the company is transparent in terms of their extraction process and whether or not they add other ingredients to their products.”
